Yin and Yang Yoga Retreat 23-25 Sep

Balancing your Yin and Yang: A long weekend retreat of yoga and mindfulness

presented by Lucy Draper-Clarke and Steven Heyman

Friday 22nd - Monday 25th September

As spring returns, it is a wonderful time to reconnect with body, heart and mind through practices that allow us to re-energise, but also to slow down and listen within. Yin and yang yoga, combined with mindfulness, is for well-being of the whole person, not just the physical. We can find time to reconnect with our emotional, mental, energetic and spiritual selves.

Join Steven Heyman and Lucy Draper-Clarke for a long weekend of Yoga and Mindfulness in the Groot Marico District, 250km from Johannesburg.

We will wake up to a gentle yoga and mindfulness session in the Octagon meditation hall, followed by healthy breakfast in the open dining area. There will then be two varied yoga sessions before tucking into a filling vegetarian lunch. Participants can either rest in the afternoon or visit the nearby waterfall in Tara’s Valley, or die Oog – the Eye – which is the 14m deep source of the Marico river, and popular with swimmers and divers. There will be one evening yin yoga practice, and on the final evening we can sit around an open fire, telling Bosman tales, traditional to the area.

Steven Heyman from Yoga Works will teach two yoga sessions each day, covering vinyasa flow (yang) as well as partner yoga, balances and an inversions workshop. Lucy Draper-Clarke from Heart-Mind will focus on Yin and Mindful yoga, alongside mindfulness and compassion training. The final 3-hour yoga session on Sunday will combine the elements from both teachers into a full yang/yin yoga, breath and mindfulness practice.

Activities: Yoga (3-4 sessions daily), trip to die Oog, hike to the waterfall, campfire. The yoga is accessible for all levels, and there will the choice of two workshops – inversions or compassion practices, to suit all participants.

Price: R3400 pp sharing (includes all meals and drinks, three nights accommodation, environmental levy to support the Tikologo permaculture site on the property and guided walks).
R2000 for accompanying partners or children who do not wish to take part in the yoga sessions.

A R600 deposit secures your place. This is non-refundable, but is transferable to another TRC retreat.

“The human body, at peace with itself, is more precious then the rarest gem.
Cherish your body, it is yours this one time only.
The human form is won with great difficulty, it is easy to lose.
All worldly things are brief, like lightning in the sky;
This life you must know as the tiny splash of a raindrop;
A thing of beauty that disappears even as it comes into being.
Therefore set your goal, make use of every day and night to achieve it.”

292 Steven is a yoga teacher and mindfulness facilitator, originally from Belgium and living in South Africa since 2006. After 12 years of working in the corporate world and after discovering yoga in 2007, he decided to explore how these ancient practices of yoga and mindfulness can be used to help more people de-stress and be healthy.

Steven likes to work around ever changing themes in his yoga sessions, and will always bring elements of surprise, challenge and compassion into every class. Expect lots of creative sequences, detailed instructions on how to skilfully experience the yoga poses, lots of fun and humour, and great playlists as a background to all of this. The classes will leave you inspired, motivated and full of energy for the day or week ahead. Steven aims to bring yoga and mindfulness to lots of different people and enjoys to teach his classes at inspiring locations like rooftops, dams, parks and art galleries.

293 Lucy has a doctorate in mindfulness and teacher education. She has practised yoga for 18 years and taught yoga and mindfulness in Botswana and South Africa since 2006. She has been lucky enough to study with inspiring Buddhist mindfulness and Vinyasa yoga teachers, and now offers a practice combining yin and yang yoga with meditation.

Her light-hearted approach to teaching allows participants to learn through a joyful, yet transformative practice.
